How to Clone a Virtual Machine in vSphere
There may be cases where you want to clone a VM in VMWare's vSphere hypervisor. It can be handy to clone VMs if you want to test new configurations or want to replicate resources for higher availability. Whatever the case may be, cloning VMs in vSphere is a straightforward process.
To clone a VM in vSphere, first, open the vSphere web interface. Find the inventory object of a valid parent of the virtual machine that you want to clone. Right-click on that object and select New Virtual Machine. On the Select Create Type page, choose the option to clone a virtual machine. It's that easy!
Before cloning virtual machines, you must meet a few prerequisites first. Certain permissions must be set before cloning a VM is an option. Those permissions are:
Virtual Machine Provisioning
Virtual Machine Inventory Create
VM Config Add New Disk
Resource Assigning To Resource Pools
Datastore Allocate Space
Network Assigning
Customize Virtual Machines
