What is an Azure Virtual Network (vNet)?
Virtual Networking is a virtualization design concept that allows for virtual machines and network-connected devices to communicate on a virtual-abstracted network that is capable of spanning multiple physical locations. A great benefit of virtual networking is that virtual networks can span multiple locations, whereas physical networks can only connect physical machines in one localized environment via physical network cables.
To build on this, Azure Virtual Network or Azure vNet applies this virtual networking in Microsoft Azure. With Azure vNet, organizations can create single or multiple virtual networks within a single Azure region. For organizations who have multiple virtual environments spanning between multiple Azure regions, multiple Azure vNets can be established in each Azure region and communicate through Virtual Network Peering. This Azure virtual networking allows for organizations to maintain security and detained network configuration capabilities in the cloud while benefiting from the 'pay for what you need' principle of cloud-based workloads.
