Improve VM Down Time In VMWare With Fault Tolerance
VMware is a great tool for businesses. It's the industry leader for virtualization technologies. By virtualizing the IT environment, organizations can reduce their total cost of ownership for IT expenditures while creating an environment that is easier to manage. Likewise, VMware offers various tools to help reduce outages of IT services within the virtualized environment as well.
One of the tools that IT professionals can use is fault tolerance. Configuring virtual machines with fault tolerance in mind reduces the likely hood of virtualized services from ever experiencing downtime.
VMware creates a highly fault-tolerant service by replicating the VM between multiple VMware hosts over a diverse region. By doing this, if a VM experiences an issue, VMware can transition all activities of that VM to the fail-over VM. While this happens, VMware then creates a new fail-over VM just in case another incident should occur.
Configuring VMs with this degree of fault tolerance needs to be done with caution, though. Fault tolerance to this degree should only be used with mission-critical services.
