What Benefits Does vSAN Offer?
Storage in a virtualized environment can be tricky. With tools like vSphere, a virtualized environment might span across multiple data centers, both on-premise and in the cloud. Traditionally virtual environments would use a SAN for storage, but SANs have limitations. For instance, SANs need to be geographically located and coordinated. On the other hand, tools like vSAN solve these issues.
vSAN creates a common control plane for storage mechanisms for the virtual environment despite geographical locations. vSAN is capable of pulling in and managing storage devices from multiple clusters within the vSphere environment.
This has many benefits. For one, this provides higher agility. vSANs can be updated and reconfigured much quicker. They are simpler to manage since the vSAN is brought in under the umbrella of a single control plane through the entire vSphere environment. By using vSAN, all of these benefits are realized while security is also improved and the TCO (total cost of ownership) is reduced for organizations.
